You can't force me

by Bruce Wadd

It’s so true!  You can’t force anyone to do anything; they have to want to do it themselves. I was arrogantly reminded of this truth in a relief teaching situation just recently.

Working with pre-adolescent teens can be really challenging at times, and this particular day was bearing this truth out.  Several girls were showing their desire to be independent, by doing crazy things.

When I, as the teacher responsible, challenged them quietly about their curious behaviour, they immediately defended their actions.  Nothing was going to change what they were doing!

One girl, Tanya, stood tall, looked me straight in the eyes and retorted, “You can’t force me to do anything!”  I immediately agreed, “Yes Tanya, you’re right!”, and left her there standing with her bold comment.

God does the same thing.  You might be right in the midst of an ongoing battle of wills, where you have been struggling with wanting your own way.  God won’t force you to do what He wants, He’s just not that kind of God.  In fact, He waits till you turn to Him with desire, passion, and often desperation, realising that all the answers to your selfish desires lie in Him.

Listen to Solomon’s wisdom regarding an obedient long life…

“My son, never forget the things I’ve taught you.

If you want a long and satisfying life,

closely follow My instructions.”

Proverbs 3:1

TODAY, just follow Him!
