Focused

by Bruce Wadd

There he was sitting on the sidewalk seat, a friend on either side.  His hands were shakily adding a substance to a cigarette he was rolling.

He was focused, with all his depleted might and will-power, on getting that next fix to help him through the day.

The drug addict, shaking, dishevelled and needing care, was applying all his focus to his one goal - the next fix!

As an observer, he looked like he was rapidly pushing his young life towards self destruction.  What a waste of a life!

I want to compare this experience with one of living in God. We are equally focused, but thankfully, not on ourselves, but rather on the wonder of God, His ever flowing love and the life mission he has given us.  It leads us to peace, happiness, hope, freedom and giving to others!

Today, I don’t want to lessen the addiction experience – I know what it’s like – but compare them for a moment ... Which would you prefer?

“Jesus said to the people, ‘I am the

Light of the world. So if you follow me,

you won’t be stumbling through the darkness,

for living light will flood your path.”

John 8:12

Where is your focus, TODAY?
