Flat pack By Karen Collum
For the uninitiated, ‘flat pack’ furniture is unassembled and laid flat in a large cardboard box. Inside you will find the necessary parts along with the all important instructions.
Assembling the cupboard was a family affair. I was chief instruction reader, while my husband handled the tools. Even our two-year-old helped, ferrying screws and nails to and fro.
After half an hour we were the proud owners of a new cupboard, complete with a hinged door and five shelves. It was quite a sense of accomplishment for all of us.
A few thousand years ago, God did some assembling too. Instead of flat pack, He opted for a more creative approach, modelling Adam out of the dust of the earth. The Almighty God got His hands dirty to create the human race.
“Then the Lord God took dust from the ground and formed a man from it. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nose, and the man became a living person.” Genesis 2:7
God was proud of his accomplishment - it was ‘very good’. Isn’t it great to know our true origins!
