Fishing trip over

by Bruce Wadd

The couple walked out to their boat in the shallow lake.  Then followed five minutes of boat preparation, and eventually the motor was fired up.  The engine sounded fine, and after several test revs the husband started on their latest fishing expedition.

Only seconds, or a mere ten meters, later there was this gurgling sound, and the motor ground to a halt.  The propeller had snagged on something!

Across the water I could hear silence of no motor, interspersed with cursing and swearing of this old fisherman – his trip was seemingly over before it began!

Ever had something stopped short?  Done all the preparation but had the goal ripped from your grasp?  How have you responded?

Often the hardest thing to live through, particularly for goal-oriented people, is to have their aim dramatically interrupted by conflicting circumstances – sickness, death, bankruptcy, failure… even motors breaking down!

Remember… [as you’re swearing across the water]

“And we know that ALL that

happens to us is working for

our good if we love God and

are fitting into His plans.”

Romans 8:28
