Extra blessings

by Linda Messner

When I was a kid it was always exciting to go to the corner store and buy a box of candy-coated popcorn called CrackerJack; there was always a prize at the bottom of the box.

When I was old enough to understand economics I realized I had bought everything, and I started to enjoy the candy-coated popcorn as well as the extra prize at the bottom of the box.

Jesus tells a story about a man and a field. He says ‘the Kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again and then, in his joy, went and sold all he had and bought that field.’

We always hear about the joy in discovering that treasure. But remember, the man bought the whole field! Imagine the ‘extra blessings’ he might have found there!

"For surely, oh Lord, You bless the righteous;

You surround them with your favour, as with a shield."

Psalm 5:12(NIV)

Look around, you’re surrounded by God’s favour!
