Dream house by Karen Collum
Walking through the vacant land at dusk, we commented on the elevated outlook, the space it would give us and where we would place our dream home. In my mind’s eye, I could picture my two-storey, picket-fenced, Colonial-style home nestled underneath a beautiful, gnarled old gum tree.
It wasn’t until we got back to the car that we discovered the truth that torchlight had failed to reveal. Both my husband and I were covered from the waist down with prickles. Thousands of prickly seed pods stuck out of my track suit pants, socks and shoes. Our potential site for the dream home was covered with a noxious weed!
Jesus, who never had a prickle of sin in His clothing – ever - wants to swap clothes with me. He willingly takes my prickle-covered clothes and in return gives me His clean, unblemished clothing. Pretty good exchange don’t you think? It’s one that I gratefully accept every day.
“Though your sins are like scarlet, they can be white as snow. Though your sins are deep red, they can be white like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 (NCV)
P.S. As for my dream home, look for me in heaven. I’ll be the one waving at you from the two-storey house, with the picket fence and the wrap-around verandah.
