Dog vomit and leopard spots

by Bruce Wadd

Does anything really change in human nature?

The other day I was out tending to my lawn and I came across this furrow on the grass on the roadside of my letterbox.  I wondered what it could be.  Not long after our post woman zipped around the corner on her bike, pulled to a stop and inserted today’s mail.

I found the answer I was looking for, sooner than I had suspected.  Everyday the ‘postie’ rides on exactly the same section of grass to deliver my mail.  Thus the furrow!

Would she ever change?  Would she consider going another way?  Does she have any choice?

Fable would have it that a leopard can’t change its spots, and a dog will always go back to its own vomit.  Human nature increasingly becomes unpredictably predictable.  We have so much in common as humans, and one of our core struggles is that we are sinful to our core.  Nothing will change, till something miraculous happens…and that is the God-factor!

The good news of Jesus Christ is that His death has changed everything for us.  His love is the only true source of power to change our lives from dark to light – to change those spots, and to stop us from ‘going back to our vomit’.

Praise God for His power to change our lives!

“When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside.  He is no longer the same anymore.

A new life has begun.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

Today, turn to Jesus for a spot change!
