Dog barking

by Bruce Wadd

I listened to the dog barking.  Not just for five minutes, but for what seemed like forever.  [It was probably closer to an hour!]  I found myself getting increasingly annoyed.

‘Why don’t they keep their dog quiet,’ I thought of the owners of this suburban canine.

Then as I caught myself with my worsening attitude towards the persistent noise and the inconsiderate neighbours, I began thinking about the dog.  What was happening for it?  Was it distressed, lonely, hungry? And so I began to balance my frustration with some degree of compassion for this dog!

Here's a really simple word - before getting annoyed with others, before judging someone for their looks or their actions - spend some time looking at life, from their perspective.  I guarantee you; your heart will be changed!

“And what pity He felt for the crowds that came,

because their problems were so great

and they didn’t know what to do

or where to go for help.

They were like sheep without a shepherd.”

Matthew 9:36

Is there a dog barking in your neighbourhood?
