Discontented screams

by Bruce Wadd

Sitting in a food court with plenty of chatting, busy noises and movement, everything was going fine till a mother tried to move one. Her toddler had been engrossed in a wonderful ride for several minutes and it was now finished.

Mum, realising that other people were waiting, tried to remove the child, but within seconds the whole centre was filled shrieks of distress.

The protests kept coming. The body stiffened. This youngster wasn’t moving, without a fight.

Most mums would have used force at this point to avoid making the situation even more embarrassing, but this wise mother cleverly diverted the attention to something she withdrew from her handbag.

Whatever it was – I couldn’t see – it worked! Within moments the child slid from the seat of the ride, and began fiddling with this new attraction.

She understood the bigger picture, how to work with young children – distraction!

Do you start screaming when things go from good to bad? Do you start questioning God? Wondering whether He really exists?

“But forget all that – it is nothing compared to what I’m going to do! For I’m going to do a brand new thing…”

Isaiah 44:18,19a

TODAY, let Him distract you!
