Dead on the road

by Bruce Wadd

I have to tell you a rather sad story.  Some time ago a friend and I drove four hours west into the flat country of western Queensland. With drought being rife in this area, hitting kangaroos became a real danger, particularly at night! And we were travelling at 9pm!

As I dozed off my friend continued the leisurely drive.

With only thirty kilometres left of the trip, we hit a kangaroo.  The sudden crash on the underside of the car woke me with a fright.  The car was quickly brought to a halt and inspected for damage.

Then we went back to see how the damaged marsupial was managing.  Unfortunately it was dead.  But the saddest part was lying right next to it.  There lay a perfect body, no blood anywhere - a little skin-coloured joey!  This innocent victim of the road carnage lay there still warm, but lifeless.

What sadness!  Only moments before the offspring was snug and warm in its mother’s pouch, and now, without any warning, it lay dead on the black tarmac.

Sometimes life brings those helpless moments.  It reminds us of where our foundation needs to be, in Jesus Christ.

“We Christians glory in what Christ Jesus has done for us and realize that we are helpless to save ourselves.”  Philippians 3:3

TODAY, be thankful for your salvation in Christ!
