Cock the leg

by Bruce Wadd

It probably sounds a bit crude, but in ‘male canine world’ it’s a fact of life. Every day as my dog walks he seems to spend the majority of his time progressively unloading the contents of his bladder on blades of grass, mounds of soil, trees, letter boxes etc.

The urge for him to leave a meagre reminder that he’s visited seems unstoppable. I often wonder how he can continue 'cocking his leg', despite the hour-long walk through trees and bushes. In the animal world it’s called ‘marking out the territory’.

In the human world this behaviour has been referred to in similar terms – ‘staking your claim’; ‘managing up’; ‘being a go-getter’!

In God’s domain, the spiritual world, where everything seems upside down and inside out, it’s the weak, the simple, the sick, the unintelligent, the broken that become eligible for the Kingdom.

No amount of ‘leg cocking’ will assist. Here is the simple truth…

“…God is ready to give blessings to all who come to Him.”

Luke 4:19

TODAY, don’t bother marking out your territory. Come to God… get on His turf!
