Chainsaw salvation

by Bruce Wadd

The hundred-year-old jacaranda trees had provided a beautiful boundary around the grassy fields, witnessing many picnics and games over the years.  But severe winds had brought down several branches, showing up numerous cracks and broken sections in some trees.

The local council had to act, and decided to cut down many of the trees.  Local residents surrounding the park, as well as long time users of this valued city recreation area protested strongly.  How could the council cut down these historical specimens?

Fortunately, sanity prevailed, so authorities decided to bring in tree x-ray experts, an expensive option, and results showed serious flaws in several specimens.  Some of these ancient jacarandas were destined to be cut down because of their fragile state.

But the good news was that many would be saved from the chainsaw because of the expensive x-ray technology.

How would you stand up if your character was x-rayed today?  Would major faults be discovered and you be condemned?  I certainly would be found wanting!

Luckily being in Christ there is Good News.  The x-ray machine is not looking at you, but at HIM It’s Him that shows up on the scan.  Here’s the analysis from Paul’s perspective…

“Now I have given up everything else –

I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ

and to experience the mighty power that brought Him

back to life again, and to find out what it means

to suffer and to die with Him.”

Philippians 3:10

Remember … it’s in the storm when you true nature is tested!
