By appointment

by Elizabeth Price

He sat at the table winking at Granny.  His little face twisted with the effort and his scarcely concealed grin admitted that for all his effort, his wink was a gigantic failure.  But it was a special moment.

And Granny thought, ‘Poor God. He has no grandchildren.’

Even in Grandma’s prayers when she hands her grandbabies to God, He is only the baby-sitter, never the grand-parent.  When Grandma brings the children to Him, they immediately become His children, but never, never His grand-children.

Nowhere in the Bible does God rejoice in His grandchildren, only in His children.

Pity!  He would have made a good grand-parent!

Fancy giving an excellent job like that away, but He invested everything in the giving.

“… even to your old age and grey hairs I am He,

I am He who will sustain you.

I have made you and I will carry you.”

Isaiah 46:4

It’s a job for life, by appointment to His Majesty.
