Birthdays

by Bruce Wadd

Getting older brings all sorts of changes – increased skin in the form of wrinkles, extra lumps and bumps, speed reduction (can’t think or move as fast), longer arms for eyesight assistance, and more smoke from the candles!

The older I get the less important presents have become. In fact, for me, presents don’t really matter at all anymore. But having time with family and friends is something I value highly, particularly at birthday time.

Likewise, you might look at God and hope that He will bless you with lots of ‘goodies’ - He certainly can and will! But the more mature you become as a Christian, you will increasingly yearn for time with God instead.

Having peace and contentment in Him will become your most valued possession in life, even above worldly treasures!

Here’s how David looked at it…

“But as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing You and knowing all is well between us.

And when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied,

for I will see You face to face.”

Psalms 17:15

TODAY, think about what you really value at birthday times!
