The baggage carousel

by Karen Collum

You can tell a lot about a person by studying their baggage.  Floral, tapestry-covered suitcase?  Grandma on the way to visit family.  Sleek, black suit bag? Business man in town for a conference.  Overstuffed duffel bag?  Backpacker on an overseas adventure?

But what about the baggage no-one else sees?  Shame, bitterness, regret, anger, pride, envy – We often cart these around day after day, week after week, year after year.

At first, they may not seem heavy.  But try carrying bitterness around for a few years and see what a burden it becomes.  Drag a load of regret through a life and watch as you grow weary.  Shoulder shame for a season and see how you stumble.

Are you tired?  There is good news!  Whatever baggage we carry, in Jesus we can find rest.

“Come to Me, all of you who are weary

and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28

Lighten your load.  Come to Jesus and find the rest you seek!
