At this address

by Elizabeth Price

The queue was long but I finally arrived at the desk.  The electoral officer opened his book and looked up my name.  If I had not enrolled, my name would not be there and I could not claim the address.

If he could not identify me, a penalty would apply.

He read the address. "Who lives at this address?" he asked.  "I do," I replied.

He handed me my voting papers.

There is another queue where books are opened.  If we have not obeyed the law and enrolled, a penalty will apply.

The books were opened, and I heard my address read out with terrifying clarity.  The officiating officer asked, "Who lives at this address?"

I froze.  Had I made sure of my enrolment?  I was about to mumble a reply when a man stepped in front of me.   "I do," he replied clearly.

Then He turned to me with a smile and said softly,

“Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”

1 John 4:16

Who lives at your address?
