Always last

by Bruce Wadd

I arrived at the swimming pool with my class for the day. They were ready for their hour’s instruction. Before long the kids were lined up at the blocks ready for their first plunge.

In they went, with focus, discipline and intent. As the dripping youngsters filed past me again and again, having completed ‘their strokes’ I began to notice the same child was always last.

Each round she got slower and more despondent. Her picture of self was like butter on a hot plate, rapidly descending into oblivion.

All she could see was this useless swimmer. “I can’t do this much longer,” her face and body language screamed.

Rescued by the final whistle, all the kids scampered off to the change rooms, whilst I got the chance to walk alongside this dawdling young lady and listen to her heart bleed.

Do you struggle with your view of yourself? Without being a psychologist, let me smash the lie by asking a simple question.

What’s God picture of you? Is it negative or positive?

One of our biggest challenges in life, is letting go of self, and living a Christ life.

But here is some hope…

“And so it is that the last shall be first, and the first last.” Matthew 20:16

...Good News for those always at the end of the line!
